German Grand Prix 1975.

Niki Lauda dices with the devil in the green hell on his way to qualifying first for the 1975 German Grand Prix. Lauda truly was a master of the ‘ring, being the only driver to lap the monster of a track in under seven minutes (with the track being approximately 2 miles longer than its configuration today). He had recorded a sub-7 minute lap the previous year in timed testing and duly backed this up with a pole time of 6:58.60 in 1975.

During the race Lauda lead comfortably before a puncture damaged his front wing and ruined his chance of victory. After a lengthy pit stop he re-joined the race and dug deep to claw his way back to third place, still with the damaged front wing and the unstable handling that came with it. The result helped secure him his first Formula 1 World Championship and Ferrari’s first Constructors Championship for 11 years.
