In June 1993 Nicky Grist was supposed to be at home enjoying a few rounds of golf but after a phone call out of the blue from his manager, he soon found himself jetting off to join multiple world rally champion Juha Kankkunen as his co-driver for Rally Argentina. Although Nicky was already a rising star in rallying he had never sat with a world champion before and experienced all of the pressure and expectation that goes with it. Upon reaching his hotel he was met by the laid back Finn ready and waiting for him, “Lets go, boyo”.
Sixteen stage wins later, and a convincing rally win sure enough proved Nicky had what it took to succeed at the very highest level of the sport, the rest as they say, is history.
